Common questions.
Is my car still under warranty?
Tesla's basic warranty runs 4 years or 50,000 miles, and the battery and drive unit warranty runs 8 years with a mileage cap that depends on the model. If your problem is covered, take it to Tesla, since warranty repairs are free there. We're for cars outside coverage, or owners who want an independent second opinion.
Do you do the repairs?
We diagnose. Repairs are performed and warrantied by our partner shop, United Transmission, and we share in that repair revenue. You're always free to take our report to any shop you want.
What do I need to do before you come?
Approve our diagnostic access when we ask, have the car somewhere we can work on it, and if possible note any warning messages on the screen.
How does the remote check work?
With your permission, we connect to your car over its own internet connection and review its alerts and data. It gives a solid picture of what's going on. Deeper tests need us at the car.
Are you part of Tesla?
No. Dark Star Diagnostics is an independent business and is not affiliated with Tesla, Inc. We use Tesla's official diagnostic software, which Tesla offers to independent shops.
